We are so excited you are becoming a Parrot Head, and we look forward to meeting you! Joining The Villages Parrot Heads Club is a great opportunity for you to make new friends and help make a difference in our community! We are currently one of 202 other Parrot Head clubs across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Belize.

Jimmy Buffett’s Parrot Heads have a Unique History

The term "Parrot Head" was coined in 1985 at a Jimmy Buffett concert in Cincinnati, OH.  At the show, Jimmy commented about everyone wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and how they kept coming back to see his shows, just like Deadheads.  Timothy B. Schmit, then a member of the Coral Reefer Band, coined the term "Parrot Head" to describe the fans.  Soon after, Parrot Heads in Paradise formed, and Chapters (Clubs) were chartered. The identity of the Parrot Head has grown over the decades to symbolize a love of the music and lifestyle that Jimmy Buffett sang about.

The Villages Parrot Heads Club was established in 2004, with a membership of 120. We have grown to well over 1000 members, and we are the largest Parrot Head Club in the world!  We are a not-for-profit social club that proudly serves Parrot Heads in The Villages, Lady Lake, and the surrounding area of Central Florida.  Our motto is “Party with a Purpose" as we constantly strive to "Leave the World a Little Better Than We Found It" every day. We do this by taking an active role in charity events and community service projects while enjoying good food, good drink, live music, and the friendship of other Parrotheads.

Jimmy strongly believed in giving back to the community through
Volunteering and Community Service

Jimmy Buffett founded multiple foundations and supported many charities. He even donated $1 from every concert ticket sold to support non-profit organizations that empower individuals and communities experiencing poverty. Following his example, Parrotheads believe in charity, volunteering, and community service, raising thousands of dollars in donations for our local communities. Some of our Volunteer Opportunities are:

  • Helping at phlockings by:

    • Selling 50/50 Tickets

    • Taking Attendance,

    • Helping at the New Members Table

    • Helping at the Phins-Up Shop

  • Joining our Security team

We Reward Club Members with Parrot Points for Volunteering

Parrot points are simply our method of tracking the volunteer efforts of our members, both for club functions and for charitable activities that have been preapproved by the Executive Committee. Each year in January, we hold a Volunteer Appreciation Party and award volunteer pins to those members who have accumulated enough Parrot Points to meet the requirements set by the Executive Committee.  In addition, we reward club members with Parrot Points for volunteering,  which can be used for priority seating at events and other purposes.     You must always sign up/register for volunteering with our Volunteer Coordinator or directly with the Event Chair to receive your Parrot Points.

We get together almost every week for live entertainment, charity events, and socializing. We enjoy the tropical spirit and laidback lifestyle that Jimmy Buffett sings about. Three times a month, our club holds meetings called Phlockings at country clubs throughout the Villages. (Parrots don't meet - they phlock together.)  Parrotheads gather at Phlockings to learn about upcoming activities while enjoying good food, good drink, live music, and the camaraderie of fellow club Parrotheads. Members or prospective members may attend any or all phlockings. The dates and locations of these phlockings are published in the monthly newsletter, our website, and our Facebook page and are emailed to our members. Our monthly schedule is:
